As a designer I am more than average interested in design and the impact of design in every aspect of life. Thats everything from how a pen feels when I use it to how my neigbours car looks.
Design is a subjective thing, – what´s good to me isn´t necessarily good to you. I have bought some design-objects over the last few years, mainly furniture and interior-stuff but also bigger items like a car, and a motorcycle that I believe to be great designs. Although design is a subjective thing, there is an indisputable quality in the classic pieces, those who never go out of style, that you can not deny.
I am convinced that having a clear thought about what you buy is very important. I would rather spend 1000$ on a dining-chair than a 100, and I consider it to be green thinking. I know that the things I buy isn´t just bought to be used and thrown away in a few years. When I buy furniture I know that I will have the piece until I die, it will be passed on to my children. To have a clear idea about this will result in a better environment over time in my opinion.
And as a big bonus, it will bring you everyday joy! Not because the things cost a lot of money, and not because you can brag about having «good taste» but because these items of quality design has a superior quality and this in the end gives the user an extraordinary user-experience, every time.
